PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Forecasters expect freezing rain to driving hazardous this morning for most of western Oregon and southwest Washington. The National Weather Service says the freezing rain should turn to rain in most locations by afternoon, but it could persist through the evening in the Columbia River Gorge and upper Hood River Valley. Another front will bring rain and mountain snow tomorrow night and Friday.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The University of Oregon has hired a high-profile Washington, D.C., lawyer to seek a Supreme Court review of a case in which a former graduate student complained the school retaliated against her for complaining about discrimination. The Eugene Register-Guard reports the case involves Monica Emeldi, a former doctoral student in education who complained that her dissertation adviser didn’t give her the help a male counterpart got.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Woodburn School District Superintendent David Bautista is leaving his post to join the state Department of Education to help improve programs for children who speak English as a second language. Bautista has led the heavily Latino district since 2010. Earlier in his career, he directed the bilingual, migrant education and English as a second language programs in both the Woodburn and Salem-Keizer districts.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police have arrested a Portland man accused of placing a pen camera in a co-worker’s office to obtain video of her using a breast pump. Sgt. Pete Simpson said yesterday that Russell Kent Gordon was fired Jan. 15, the day after the woman discovered the camera on her desk and alerted supervisors. The 44-year-old information technology employee is facing burglary and invasion of privacy charges. Simpson says detectives are not aware of any additional victims.
