DENVER (AP) – Wilson Chandler hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 14.9 seconds remaining in overtime and the Denver Nuggets beat the Portland Trail Blazers 115-111 last night for their season-best sixth consecutive victory. Danilo Gallinari added 25 points, including a key 3-pointer in the extra period. Ty Lawson had 24 points and 12 assists for the Nuggets, who are 2-0 in overtime this season. Portland, which lost for the first time in six OT games this season, was led by LaMarcus Aldridge’s 28 points.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson says he’s received approval from NBA Commissioner David Stern to present a counteroffer to the league from investors who would keep the Kings in California’s capital city. Speaking at the annual State of Downtown Breakfast yesterday, Johnson says his city is in a “six-week sprint” to put together a proposal for the NBA’s Board of Governors to consider. The league’s deadline for teams to apply for relocation is March 1. People with knowledge of the situation said last week that a group led by Seattle’s Chris Hansen has contacted the Maloof family about buying the Kings.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Freshman guard Jamie Weisner had 22 points and Oregon State held off a late rally by rival Oregon for a 63-53 victory last night. It was the fourth straight win for Oregon State in the longstanding rivalry series between the two teams, who meet again Sunday in Corvallis. Oregon State led by as many as 24 but the Ducks pulled to within 54-45 with 4:41 left on Jordan Loera’s 3-pointer. Sophomore Liz Brenner got Oregon closer with a pair of free throws before Weisner hit a jumper.

SEATTLE (AP) – Jazmine Davis scored 21 points and Washington defeated Washington State 60-53 last night. Talia Walton had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Kristi Kingma had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Huskies, who never trailed in the game. Lia Galdeira led Washington State with 14 points, 12 rebounds and four steals before fouling out in the final minute. Washington shot 40 percent in the first half and built a 36-21 lead. The Huskies struggled in the second half, making just 4 of 21 shots.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State football coach Mike Riley has promoted assistant head coach Jay Locey to chief of staff and graduate assistant Trent Bray to linebackers coach. Locey, in his seventh season as coach, will add fundraising, alumni engagement, high school and community relations, player leadership development and team building activities to a list of duties in his new role. A graduate assistant coach to be named later will assume Locey’s responsibilities over the team’s tight ends.
