Siuslaw Wrestling standout Luke Carrol has been named Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week.  Wrestling at the 16 team Willamette Invitational, Carroll won his first two matches and made it the final match where he finished in second  place.  It was the first-ever final for the Viking 152-pounder.  This week’s honorable Mention goes to Viking Junior wing John Dodson scored a tool of 30 points in three games as the Siuslaw Basketball team finished third at the Les Schwab South Coast Invitational in Coos Bay.

 

Ahmad Starks had 21 points and Oregon State pulled away from Texas-Pan American in the second half Monday afternoon for a 84-59 win. Joe Burton had 18 points and tied a season high with 10 rebounds for Oregon State, which bounced back from its first home loss of the season to heavy underdog Towson just two days ago.

 

Carlos Emory and Tony Woods had 13 points each for Oregon, which will take a perfect home record into the new year following a 56-43 win against Nevada on last night. Dominic Artis scored 10 for Oregon, which has won all 10 games at Matthew Knight Arena this season.

 

The Siuslaw mat men had a respectable showing Saturday at the Willamette Wrestling tournament, finishing 10th out of 16 teams. Six Vikings competed in the varsity tournament with four placing in the top five of their brackets.  Luke Carroll finished 2nd in the 152 pound finals.   Ryan Connor also earned a 2nd place–at 285. Hayden Miles placed 3rd in the 160 pound bracket. Turner Wyckoff added a 5th place at 182 pounds, winning a pair of matches.  The Siuslaw wrestlers will compete Saturday at the Riddle Invitational.
