PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say it may be a month or more before investigators and prosecutors decide whether to file charges in the crash of a tour bus in Eastern Oregon that killed nine people. At a news conference yesterday, State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings said investigators don’t know how fast the bus was going, but there were icy spots on Interstate 84 through the Blue Mountains. Some survivors have been released from regional hospitals, including Idaho. Others are in more serious condition.

HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a vehicle that slid on icy Interstate 84 in the Columbia River Gorge crashed through a guardrail and plunged into the Columbia River east of Hood River. The male driver managed to escape late Monday afternoon and was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Police divers searched the river for the vehicle Monday evening, trying to make sure no one else had been inside. The driver was not immediately identified.

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a Cottage Grove-area woman was hit by a car and killed as she took her garbage out to the curb. KVAL-TV reports that the driver stopped Monday afternoon and tried to revive the woman, then took off. State police say they’ve made an arrest. Neither the driver nor the pedestrian was immediately identified.

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – One worker says, “It’s not much, but it’s something.” The minimum wage increases in several states, including Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Montana and Oregon as of today. Sixteen-year-old high school students Miranda Olson says the raise at her part-time cafe job will help her toward her goal of buying a car. Many workers around the country won’t be as lucky as residents of Washington state, which is raising its minimum wage by 15 cents an hour to $9.19 even though it already has the highest state baseline in the country.
