Local News – Viking, Duck, Beaver Basketball & Alamo Bowl

After falling Thursday to Coquille in the Les Schwab South Coast Holiday tourney, the Lady Viks fell in their second game to the North Salem Vikings 49 / 38, before closing out their tournament action Saturday with a 42 / 40 lost to the North Bend Bull dogs. Marshfield claimed the girls tournament taking down North Eugene 48 / 34 Saturday evening.

 

The Siuslaw boys opened their Les Schwab South Coast Holiday tourney appearance with an overtime victory Thursday night, 46 / 44 over the Marshfield Pirates.  Friday afternoon the Viks played the Coquille Red Devils in the tournament semi finals, falling  63 / 36. Siuslaw’s boys then closed out tournament play Saturday with a 50 / 47 victory over the Molalla Indians to claim a 3rd place tourney finish.

 

Marcus Damas connected on an 18-foot shot with eight-tenths of a second left to give Towson a shocking 67-66 overtime victory over Oregon State on Saturday. Ahmad Starks gave Oregon State its first lead in overtime on a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Damas took a pass a few feet inside the 3-point line on the left wing and nailed the shot, quieting the Gill Coliseum crowd.  This afternoon the Beavers will close out 2012 on the hardwood against Texas Pan American.  Airtime is 1:30 on KCFM, tip off at Gill Coliseum is set for 2 o’clock…

Oregon plays Nevada this afternoon at 4 o’clock in Eugene, airtime over KCST is set for 3:30…

 

David Ash threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes, the last a 36-yard strike to Marquise Goodwin with 2:24 left, to give Texas a 31-27 comeback victory over No. 15 Oregon State in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday night. Storm Woods ran for 118 yards and scored two touchdowns for Oregon State (9-4). The Beavers left stunned after looking as though they would wrap up their first 10-win season since 2006.
