WASHINGTON (AP) – The Washington Wizards earned their first victory after starting the season with 12 straight losses, getting 19 points from Jordan Crawford in an 84-82 win over the Portland Trail Blazers last night. Washington survived a scoreless 6:47 in the fourth when Crawford hit on a 3-pointer with 2:06 to play, and they finally took the 84-82 lead on Emeka Okafor’s two free throws with 39.1 seconds to play.
SEATTLE (AP) – C.J. Wilcox finished 27 points, just off his career-high, Aziz N’Diaye scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half, and Washington snapped a two-game home losing streak by holding on for a 66-61 win over Saint Louis last night. Thinned by injuries, the Huskies went just seven players deep, but had enough to overcome the Billikens and avenge a 13-point loss last season in St. Louis.
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) – Brock Motum had 26 points and pulled nine rebounds to help Washington State beat the Vandals 64-55, making it 10 straight wins for the Cougars over Idaho. Dexter Kernich-Drew had a career-high 15 points and five assists. D.J. Shelton added 14 points including a 3-pointer down the stretch to help Washington State with the win.
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) – Andy Brown scored a career-high 17 points and Dwight Powell had a career-high 13 rebounds to lead Stanford past Seattle 68-57 last night. Chasson Randle added 15 points for the Cardinal, who had lost three of their previous four games. Prince Obasi recorded career highs with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Redhawks.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel and Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o are among the five finalists for the Walter Camp player of the year award. Oregon running back Kenjon Barner and Southern California receiver Marqise Lee are the other finalists. The award will be presented Thursday Dec. 6.
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) – A suspended University of Montana football player has pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge in exchange for a recommended deferred sentence. KECI-TV reports 20-year-old Trevor Poole of Spokane, Wash., pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of dangerous drugs. The former offensive tackle was arrested in late October at a large Halloween party and suspended from the team. He acknowledged buying two “molly” pills, a drug similar to ecstasy.
