PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man who confessed to three cold case killings in Oregon was ordered held without bail at a hearing yesterday. Defense lawyers for 63-year-old Jeffrey Cutlip raised questions about his mental state and said there’s little evidence linking him to the crimes from 1975, 1977 and 1993.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – In another cold case investigation, a man who acknowledged cutting a Portland man with a knife and leaving him to bleed to death in 1994 was sentenced yesterday to four years in prison. Terry Lavell Haynes pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter for killing Raymond Lee Johnson.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police arrested a 23-year-old man after some bizarre behavior at a Salem bank. Authorities say Danny Dean Kelly took off his shoes and socks yesterday and put them in a waste basket, then put a portable radio on the bank counter. As he left, he put on a dog muzzle and boarded a bus.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A 31-foot Noble fir from the Tillamook State Forest was put up by forestry workers yesterday as the state Capitol Christmas tree in Salem. Volunteers are decorating the tree and the building in the theme of “Whimsical Wonderland.” The tree lighting is Thursday.
