Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Most workers have to carefully schedule a limited amount of vacation time. Not so for some top elected officials in Portland. The Oregonian reports the mayor, city commissioners and auditor can take as much vacation time as they want. One commissioner has taken more than five weeks, another nearly seven. Mayor Sam Adams notes that officials sometimes work more than 40 hours a week.

COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – A development company hopes to sell about four million cubic yards of sand from a 69-acre property in Coos Bay and then build a 500-unit housing project. Ocean Grove Development Group sees a growing demand for sand for big construction projects and because of the special sand used in hydraulic fracturing drilling for natural gas.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police are looking for an attacker who sexually assaulted a Portland State University student in downtown Portland early today. The woman says she was walking to her dorm and remembers a man following her. Then she was hit on the head and woke up in an alley behind her dorm. Police searched the area with a dog but did not locate a suspect. The woman was treated at a hospital.

ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – Two webcams atop a 90-foot communication tower are helping firefighters scan for wildfires in central Oregon. The Bulletin reports that crews with Lake Chinook Fire & Rescue will be able to access the camera images from a smartphone or laptop computer.
