PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police are investigating the sexual assault of a Portland State University student in downtown Portland. The woman in her 20s says she was walking to her dorm early this morning and remembers a man following her. Then she was hit on the head and woke up in an alley behind her dorm. Police searched the area with a dog but did not locate a suspect. The woman was treated at a hospital.
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (AP) – Lake Oswego firefighters had to use hydraulic tools to free the driver from the wreckage of a car that crashed into a tree early today and rolled several times. The driver was taken to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland with life threatening injuries after the crash on Highway 43.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) – The Boys Scouts of America and The Mormon Church have agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by a Portland man who said they didn’t do enough to stop a Scout troop leader from sexually abusing children. The Idaho Statesman reports that a Nov. 15 filing in U.S. District Court in Boise says both sides agreed to an undisclosed monetary settlement.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – When the appointed incumbent for the Lane County Circuit Court Position 7 mistakenly failed to file paperwork to appear on the ballot, he set in motion a lively and time-consuming write-in contest. Incumbent Jay McAlpin ultimately won the race, but it took elections officials nearly two weeks to add up the results. Some voters took the contest in jest, writing in names ranging from cartoon character Homer Simpson to “Ann Heiser-Bush.”
