MADRAS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police are investigating how a driver crashed into a school bus near Madras late yesterday afternoon. There were 43 people on the bus including children from kindergarten through fifth grades. No one on the bus was hurt. The 62-year-old car driver was hospitalized with of non-life-threatening injuries.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland police union has filed a grievance with the city, seeking to block voter-approved reforms to police and firefighter pensions. Portland Police Association President Daryl Turner says the changes should be subject to collective bargaining. The Oregonian reports the city believes the public safety pension and disability fund is an independent body – not the union members’ employer.

GLADSTONE, Ore. (AP) – Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man who is presumed drowned in the Willamette River at Gladstone. The man and woman had tried to swim to shore after their truck became stranded late yesterday afternoon on a sandbar a Meldrum Bar Park. KATU reports fishermen rescued the woman.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – More indications emerged in October that Oregon’s sluggish economic recovery has slowed. State officials said yesterday that payroll employment for the month dropped by 2,400 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis. The losses were evenly divided between public and private employment. The department said the unemployment rate for the month was 8.6 percent, statistically unchanged from the previous month, at 8.7 percent.
