Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A southern Oregon gymnastic coach accused of filming his students in changing rooms without their knowledge had been the subject of previous sexual abuse allegations. The Mail Tribune reports that 54-year-old Jeffrey Bettman was sued for sexual abuse in Santa Barbara, Calif., in 2000. Bettman was arraigned last week on 10 counts each of first- and second-degree encouraging child sex abuse.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – After responding to a flurry of calls about lost mushroom pickers, the Lane County sheriff’s office has issued a reminder saying people should bring basic survival gear in forests. The Register-Guard reports that the sheriff’s office responded to several calls about missing mushroom pickers. Eventually all of them were found, but cold and wet.

PORT ORFORD, Ore. (AP) – Federal officials have told one of Oregon’s smaller ports it won’t be dredged anytime soon. That has Port Orford fishermen worried. Sand washing into the bay makes it too shallow for boats to come in or out except at high tide. The Coos Bay World reports fishermen plan what’s called a “prop wash.” The idea is tie their boats to the dock in a line, and run their propellers as the tide goes out. The hope is to clear enough sand to create a channel for crab season.

WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) – A slightly revised name of a Rhode Island microbrewery has helped settle a trademark dispute with an Oregon brewer. The Westerly Sun reports that Alan and Jennifer Brinton changed the name to Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island from Grey Sail Brewing, which was too similar to Full Sail Brewing Co. of Hood River. Irene Firmat, founder of Full Sail Brewing Co., said she is relieved the dispute has been settled.
