SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon authorities advise drivers not to swerve when they see deer or elk in the roadway. Drivers who swerve are likely to lose control or crash into another vehicle. Authorities say it’s best to slow down and stay in your lane.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A psychiatrist accused of sabotaging mountain-biking trails in the Ashland watershed no longer works for Jackson County. County officials say Jackson Dempsey stopped working for the county on Oct. 19, but wouldn’t tell the Mail Tribune whether Dempsey was fired or resigned. Court records indicate Dempsey is negotiating a plea agreement on reckless endangerment and assault charges. He’s accused of placing nails, nylon cord and vegetation on trails this summer because he does not like mountain bikers.
CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – Infighting on the Clackamas River Water District board has reached new heights. Yesterday two members seized power by appointing two new members, then fired the district’s lawyer and put the general manager on administrative leave. County officials consider the actions of Patricia Holloway and Grafton Sterling invalid because the board lacked a quorum. The Oregonian reports sheriff’s detectives were called to the tense meeting.
MOLALLA, Ore. (AP) – The city manager of the small Oregon town of Molalla will leave after a year under a mutual agreement approved by the City Council. The plan approved last night calls for Ellen Barnes to remain for 30 days or until the city chooses an interim city manager. She’ll receive severance pay totaling $21,000. Barnes said “philosophical disagreements” contributed to her departure.
