CANBY, Ore. (AP) — Officials say a 76-year-old Canby-area man died after he tried to shut off his home water supply because of a leak and got stuck upside-down in an underground vault. Candy fire officials tell The Oregonian that Edward Bilton-Smith went outside to shut off the water, which involved reaching down five feet into a vault to turn a valve by hand. When the man failed to return, his wife went outside and tried in vain to help. Then she called 911.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Police say a 26-year-old man was critically injured when his bicycle crashed into a van last night at intersection in Salem. The man was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to Salem Hospital.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Multnomah County court records show the wife of a Gresham man charged with kidnapping and killing a 21-year-old barista has filed for divorce. The documents say Amanda Holt filed her petition Friday to divorce Jonathan Holt, who’s charged in the Oct. 16 death of Whitney Heichel (HIKE-ell) of Gresham. The Holts were neighbors of Whitney Heichel and her husband.
