ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – Ashland police say officers have taken a man into protective custody after a seven-hour standoff. Police say the man barricaded himself inside a vacant home yesterday after making statements about the safety of other people. That prompted a police SWAT team to respond. The Daily Tidings says the man was taken to Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford for an evaluation after police were able to enter the home. Police say he has an extensive criminal history.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Fingerprints on a bloody machete led investigators to connect white supremacist Erik Meiser to last week’s stabbing death of a Lake Oswego man. Detective Eric Lee of the Clackamas County sheriff’s office said in court documents the machete was found in a gravel driveway next to the home where 57-year-old Fritz Hayes died. Lee said the victim’s blood was on the weapon, and a fingerprint on the handle matched that of Meiser. He is charged with murder.

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – A 36-year-old Albany woman has been pleaded guilty to manslaughter under a plea agreement with prosecutors. The Democrat-Herald reports that Melissa Haley pleaded guilty Monday in Linn County Circuit Court in connection with her landlord’s killing. Haley was initially charged with murder in the shooting death of 49-year-old Derrick Miller, of Albany. Her sentencing is set for Oct. 10.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 59-year-old Multnomah County jail deputy who had sexual contact with a female inmate has been sentenced to two years of probation. The Oregonian reports that Eddie Miller had pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of official misconduct. He was sentenced yesterday.
