PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – TriMet calls it the Big Pour –180 truckloads of cement will be continuously poured in a 36-hour period today and tomorrow to form the base of the east tower of the Portland-Milwaukie light rail bridge over the Willamette River. The bridge is a key part of the 7-mile project to extend MAX lines from downtown Portland to Milwaukie and north Clackamas County. It will expand the MAX system to 60 miles with 97 stations.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Tim Barnack is one of the latest victims of bicycle thieves in Medford. He was at a gym for an hour one day last week and when he came out, his $1,000 mountain bike was gone. Police tell the Mail Tribune bike thefts increased dramatically during the good weather and one or two are reported each day.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Sheriff’s deputies responding to a burglary call say they found a 20-year-old man asleep on the kitchen floor of a home in Hillsboro. Washington County deputies say the homeowner discovered the sleeping stranger early Friday. Deputies arrived to find Cristian Villarreal-Castillo, who had in his pockets small electronic devices believed to be stolen from unlocked vehicles.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Thousands of people lined downtown streets in Bend yesterday to welcome hometown hero Ashton Eaton, winner of the decathlon at the London Olympics. The track star thanked them for all their support and said they were inspirational. KTVZ reports Eaton signed autographs for two hours.
