ST. HELENS, Ore. (AP) – Columbia County deputies say a Springfield man took nearly $33,000 from his father after the man was taken to jail for allegedly assaulting his son. After his arrest on Aug.14, Dennis Newman of Scappoose told detectives he had a large amount of cash at his house. They took him back to get it, but by then the money and the 22-year-old son were gone. Detectives caught Freddie Sandusky just before he got on a plane to Hawaii. The Oregonian reports he had $19,000 with him and is believed to have spent or gambled away the rest.
