PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say two bow hunters safely escaped a wildfire burning in rugged terrain in eastern Oregon. Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer says two law enforcement officers helped the pair get out of harm’s way late Tuesday or early yesterday. The Parish Cabin wildfire has scorched 5,000 acres in the Malheur National Forest. Its cause is unknown.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Medford police are awaiting autopsy results on a man who died in police custody after a car and foot chase. A police spokesman identified the man as 42-year-old Joseph Vavrosky of Medford. Lt. Mike Budreau says the driver fled Tuesday night when a state trooper tried to stop him for investigation of driving under the influence.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities have begun a homicide investigation into the disappearance of a man who traveled to Oregon last month on his motorcycle for the Chief Joseph Days rodeo and celebration in Joseph. The family of 40-year-old Isaac Lee Roberts of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading investigators to him.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Federal prosecutors have charged a man accused of phoning in a threat to bomb a post office in Eugene in November 2010. The Oregonian says the documents charging 63-year-old Patrick Florian Smoly were made public yesterday. Police temporarily evacuated buildings near the post office and shut down part of a street. No explosives were found.
