MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Felix Hernandez struck out five in a five-hitter and Eric Thames hit a solo homer in the eighth inning to lift the Seattle Mariners to a 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins last night. Hernandez, who picked up his 23rd career complete game and ninth shutout, hasn’t lost a decision since June 12. It marks the second nine-decision win streak of Hernandez’s career.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) – A person familiar with the discussions says the Buffalo Bills have reached an agreement with quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. His arrival in Buffalo completes a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. Jackson was scheduled to make $4 million this season, but that figure was restructured because the Bills deemed it to be too expensive for a backup player.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Seattle coach Pete Carroll says that despite the Seahawks’ decision to release Terrell Owens he still believes the 38-year-old wide receiver can play in the NFL. Carroll says he has no doubt that Owens can still play and would be surprised if he didn’t catch on elsewhere. Owens was released on Sunday as the Seahawks made their initial round of cuts.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) – Washington State University basketball player Que Johnson has been ruled a partial qualifier by the NCAA. Head coach Ken Bone says Johnson will receive athletics aid and attend classes during the upcoming school year, but is not eligible to play next season. The 6-foot-5 guard from Pontiac, Mich., signed with Washington State last November.
