SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum has denied The Oregonian’s request for the names and personnel records of the Department of Revenue workers whose errors led to the biggest tax fraud in state history. The department disciplined four employees last month after an internal investigation into how a Salem woman was able to claim $3.5 million in income and get a bogus $2.1 million refund from the state on a Visa debit card. The woman has been sentenced to prison. But none of the state revenue workers lost their jobs.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A judge has sentenced a Eugene man to 34 months in prison for breaking into people’s homes to view Internet pornography on their computers. The Register Guard reports Antone Owen’s attorney had asked for probation with treatment after he pleaded guilty to five counts of first-degree burglary.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The Jackson County sheriff’s office says a county corrections litter crew found a large pipe bomb along a road in Medford. Deputies say a state police bomb squad and firefighters responded yesterday morning. The bomb was made inoperable and taken into evidence. No one was hurt but Pioneer Road was closed for about two hours.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – The Astoria City Council said thanks, but no thanks to the gift of an old pilot boat. The Columbia River Maritime Museum asked the city to accept the boat from Foss Maritime because it can’t afford to restore, preserve and display the vessel right now. But the council refused the offer. Members said the city can’t afford the maintenance costs.
