Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – A public uproar has led Clackamas Town Center to relent and allow U.S. flags to decorate a kiddie train at the mall. The mall posted a statement on its Facebook page and on the KATU comment page saying flags will remain on the kiddie train and other locations in the mall, which the mall’s manager called “unapproved visuals.” Train ride manager Thomas Phelps refused and said he might be fired or kicked out of the mall but he would not take down the flags.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – A woman has died in a rafting accident on the North Umpqua River. Douglas County sheriff’s deputies say she was stuck underwater in the root system of a tree in a log jam in turbulent water. Seven other rafters who were with her escaped unharmed.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police say a man who attacked a woman on a Hoyt Arboretum trail was chased by witnesses, but they did not catch him. The woman was walking yesterday when a man who followed her from the parking lot grabbed her by the neck. She screamed and fought back. People in the area came to her aid and the man fled.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Four kittens died and a fifth is fighting an infection after someone put them inside a bucket of kitty litter and taped it shut. Officials at the DoveLewis animal hospital say the kittens were brought in by Multnomah County animal control workers after they were found in Portland on Friday night. The surviving kitten is recovering from an upper respiratory infection.
