SEATTLE (AP) – Ichiro Suzuki switched teams in Seattle after a momentous trade and singled his first time up with the New York Yankees during their 4-1 victory over the Mariners last night. After leaving the only major league team he’d ever played for yesterday, the 10-time All-Star held an emotional news conference and then joined his new teammates in the other clubhouse at Safeco Field.

SEATTLE (AP) – Ichiro Suzuki says it’s hard to contain his excitement as he goes from a team with the most losses to a team with the most wins. The New York Yankees acquired the star outfielder from the Seattle Mariners in a trade yesterday for right-handers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar. Fans at Safeco Field gave Suzuki a 45 second standing ovation when he came to bat with one out in the third inning last night.

SEATTLE (AP) – Defensive end Chris Clemons and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms on a multiyear deal that will keep Clemons under contract beyond the 2012 season. Clemons’ agent, Donal Henderson, confirmed the agreement in a text message to The Associated Press last night, but didn’t release any terms. The team had no announcement of Clemons’ deal.

SEATTLE (AP) – The plans for a new arena that could bring the NBA back to Seattle has taken another step forward with the King County Council possibly taking a vote on the proposal as early as next week. The council said yesterday it’s moving the memorandum of understanding between investor Chris Hansen and the county out of committee and for a possible full council vote on July 30. Both the county council and the Seattle City Council must approve it.
