SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon is establishing a hotline to report debris from the Japanese tsunami. Residents and tourists on the Oregon coast will soon have a quick and easy way to report debris from the Japanese tsunami. Gov. John Kitzhaber announced that people can to call 211 to report debris along the coastline. Beginning today, the hotline will be staffed during business hours and will take recorded messages at other times.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Three homicide suspects are among the last group of inmates released early from the Lane County Jail in Eugene because of budget cuts. The Register-Guard reports all are being monitored electronically. Corrections Sgt. Steve French says the jail staff doesn’t like the early releases any more than anyone else but their hands are tied by the need to cut costs.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police have arrested a 50-year-old man accused of attacking two transgender females. The victims said the man yelled at them, pulled off his belt and swung a large buckle at them, hitting one on the arms. When officers first contacted the man he complained he had been pepper-sprayed by two people. But, when they walked up, he ran off and was chased down and arrested.
NEW YORK (AP) – Nike says its fourth-quarter net income fell 8 percent as restructuring charges and higher raw material costs offset price increases that helped boost its revenue. In a rare circumstance for the world’s largest athletic shoe and clothing company, the results missed expectations, and Nike shares sank almost 10 percent after hours.
