BEND, Ore. (AP) – Bend police say a homeowner shot and killed a man who had broken into his home. Police tell KTVZ that the homeowner and a woman returned to his home early Sunday and found the front door forced open and an intruder in the living room. The intruder, 33-year-old Shane Munoz, was pronounced dead at the scene. The homeowner has not been charged.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department says a contractor has been hired to remove a dock from Japan that washed up on Agate Beach. The dock washed ashore June 5 and officials confirmed it had been swept away from Japan in the March 2011 tsunami. A Vancouver, Wash., salvage firm won an $84,000 contract to dismantle and remove the dock.

HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. (AP) – Clackamas County firefighters say a 4-year-old child is hospitalized in stable condition after falling from a second-story window of a home in Happy Valley. The child fell about 15 feet Monday evening and landed on a concrete driveway. The child was crying when paramedics arrived. Firefighters and witnesses say the parents were downstairs when the child kicked out a screen and fell.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A suburban Portland man says he was so moved by a documentary exploring the cause of the Great Recession that he decided to rob a bank. The Oregonian reports that 50-year-old Raymond Carl Knudson of Gresham pleaded guilty yesterday to sticking up a Bank of America branch in April, a crime he confessed within minutes of committing.
