Taking a look at Coast Radio Sports…

A pair of Siuslaw softball players will extend their season over the weekend.  Kati Thrall and April Ruf will be two of three players representing the Far West League at Sunday’s Senior All-State softball game at the OSU softball complex in Corvallis.

 

The top prep athletes in the area will be honored this evening at Siuslaw High School during the second annual recognition night.  41 prep athletes from Siuslaw and Mapleton high schools… recipients of Athlete of the Week or Honorable Mention honors throughout the school year… will be feted and fed this evening.

The KCST/Siuslaw News Athletes of the Year will be announced as well.  Dinner is being prepared by the Siuslaw High School Culinary students.  The evening is co-sponsored by Coast Radio and the Siuslaw Athletic Boosters… it’s open to the public and tickets are only $12… they’re available at the door.

In Oklahoma City the Oregon Ducks Softball team dropped their opening game in the Women’s College World Series 3-1 to defending champion Arizona State.  The Ducks will face Tennessee tomorrow in the double-elimination prelims.

The Oregon Ducks are ranked number five nationally and they’ll be the number one seed at their own NCAA Baseball Regional this weekend in Eugene.  The Ducks, at 42-17 overall, finished third in the Pac-12 and will host number 4 seed Austin Peay (pay) this evening at PK Park.  Cal State Fullerton and Indiana State will meet this afternoon.  The losers meet tomorrow at two with the loser of that going home… the winners of today’s games will meet tomorrow evening… More action is set for Sunday with a final game set for Monday evening if needed.

The Oregon State Beavers are in another of the 16 NCAA Regionals.  At 38-18 overall the Beavers finished in a tie for fourth place in the conference.  They’ll go up against Belmont later this afternoon in Baton Rouge at the LSU Regional.  The host Tigers will face off against Louisiana-Monroe following that… the regional wraps up Sunday or Monday.

The winners from each of the 16 regionals will meet next weekend in 8 Super-Regionals with the final eight teams from there advancing to the College World Series in Omaha.
