ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Justin Smoak hit two three-run homers against his former team and the Seattle Mariners used a pair of early eight-run innings to rout the Texas Rangers for the second game in a row, winning 21-8 last night. Smoak had three hits to go with his career high for RBIs as Seattle reached double digits in back-to-back games against the AL West leaders. Jesus Montero homered among his three hits and drove in four runs and Kyle Seager had four hits and two RBIs.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) – Sammy Ochoa scored two goals four minutes apart midway through the second half as the Seattle Sounders opened pursuit of an unprecedented fourth straight U.S. Open Cup last night by routing the Atlanta Silverbacks 5-1. Andy Rose, Osvaldo Alonso and Alex Caskey also scored for the Sounders, who set a franchise record for goals in an Open Cup game since joining MLS in 2009. Seattle remained undefeated in Open Cup play since joining MLS.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Artur Aghasyan scored in the first overtime and Cal FC, an amateur team coached by former U.S. national team standout Eric Wynalda, upset the Portland Timbers 1-0 in a third-round match of the U.S. Open Cup last night. Aghasyan, who played for a time last season with Real Salt Lake, charged Portland goalkeeper Troy Perkins in the 95th minute and rifled the ball into the goal as Perkins slid on the turf. Cal FC is part of the U.S. Adult Soccer Association.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Trail Blazers will have four total picks in June’s NBA draft. The Blazers got the 11th pick in yesterday’s draft lottery, but also picked up the 6th overall pick from New Jersey. Portland acquired the conditional first-round pick from the Nets in the Gerald Wallace trade at the deadline. Portland also has the 40th and 41st picks in the June 28 draft. The New Orleans Hornets drew the No. 1 pick overall – and will likely use it to select Kentucky star Anthony Davis.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have confirmed they will hold a tryout for former high school football star Brian Banks, who was exonerated in a California rape case in which he was falsely accused. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll did not speak following the Seahawks’ offseason workout yesterday, but the team confirmed that Banks will work out for the team on June 7. The 26-year-old Banks pleaded no contest 10 years ago on the advice of his lawyer after a childhood friend falsely accused him.
