BORING, Ore. (AP) – A 22-year-old Oregon Marine who died in combat in Afghanistan earlier this week had been making plans for a July wedding. The Defense Department says Cpl. Keaton G. Coffey of Boring was killed Thursday in Helmand province. The Oregonian reports that he was on his second tour in Afghanistan.

ST. HELENS, Ore. (AP) – The mother of a man accused of stabbing an Oregon health worker to death says he was being weaned off his anti-psychotic medication when it happened. Debbie Redd tells The Oregonian that her 30-year-old son Brent was scared about the change. Brent Redd was released from the Oregon State Hospital to live semi-independently. Police say caseworker Jennifer Warren showed up to deliver medicine to his apartment when he stabbed her to death before calling 911.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Police are looking for a vehicle that struck and killed a 54-year-old cyclist in Eugene. The man was hit just after 11 p.m. Saturday night. The car left the crash scene, leaving the man lying in the roadway. The man died at a local hospital.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – It’s been a busy holiday weekend for the Coast Guard off of Washington and Oregon. The agency says it rescued two divers and the people in their dive boat off of Whidbey Island, Wash., on Saturday evening. Crews also rescued two other divers Saturday near Port Orford, Ore. Yesterday, a helicopter crew helped save a fishing vessel that was taking on water.
