PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A veteran Portland police officer accused of a child sex crime has resigned. Fifty-year-old officer Scott Elliott has been on paid leave with police powers since his arrest in March. He was accused of online sexual corruption of a child and luring. The Oregonian reported Elliott worked in sex offender registration.

SCAPPOOSE, Ore. (AP) – A St. Helens police officer and another driver are injured after a collision last night on Highway 30 in Scappoose. Police say the police car was responding to another crash when it collided with a car making a left turn into a parking lot. KOIN reports both drivers were taken to Portland hospitals.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Police say they believe a body found in the Deschutes River south of Bend is that of a local woman who vanished two weeks ago. Sheriff’s deputies and Bend detectives recovered the body yesterday afternoon. Police tell KTVZ that pending a positive identification, the body is believed to be that of 46-year-old Carol Margaret Ray, who was reported missing by her husband on May 8. Foul play is not suspected.

SISTERS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Department of Transportation crews have cleared one lane through McKenzie Pass and it’s open only for hikers and bikers. Crews are still clearing snow and the pass may open next month to motor vehicles. The mile-high pass on Highway 42 near Sisters typically closes for the winter in November.
