SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police in northwest Oregon say a mother and her three children were found dead in burned house, and the children’s father was found dead later in a car in what authorities believe to be a murder-suicide. Police say the bodies of the woman and children were discovered early yesterday in a Salem home that burned, while the father was found dead in a vehicle about 75 miles away at Cottage Grove. The victims weren’t immediately identified.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Police say they believe a body found in the Deschutes (duh-SHOOTS’) River south of Bend is that of a local woman who vanished two weeks ago. Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and Bend police detectives recovered the body yesterday afternoon. Police Lt. Ben Gregory tells KTVZ that the body is believed to be that of 46-year-old Carol Margaret Ray, who was reported missing by her husband on May 8. Foul play is not suspected. An autopsy is planned.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland produce distributor has announced it is voluntarily recalling bagged lettuce that could be tainted with listeria. The Pacific Coast Fruit Co. said yesterday that the lettuce was sold to Fred Meyer stores in the Northwest, and also distributed to a pair of companies that stock vending machines. Pacific Coast Fruit bought the lettuce from River Ranch Fresh Foods of Salinas, Calif., which issued a nationwide recall on Monday. No illnesses have been reported.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An audit from the Oregon secretary of state’s office finds schools missed out on $40 million worth of energy savings by failing to choose the most cost-effective measures to reduce energy costs. The audit released yesterday looked at 6,859 measures identified from 2002 to 2010 in energy audits in 111 school districts as part of a program enacted by the Legislature in 1999. The analysis found many school buildings identified as energy hogs were not getting needed improvements.
