The Brookings-Harbor Bruins took both halves of a Far West Double Header in Curry County yesterday, downing the Siuslaw Vikings 5-4 and 6-5.  The losses drop the Vikings, at 6-6 in league play, into a three-way tie for third with South Umpqua and Brookings.  They’ll be in North Bend this afternoon for one game against last place North Bend.  Other Far West matchups today: Brookings @ Sutherlin; South Umpqua @ Douglas.

Baseball:

Viking Baseball clinched at least 2nd place in the Far West League last night when the South Umpqua Lancers hung a pair of losses on North Bend.  The Lancers, at 10-2 are two games ahead of Siuslaw with three games remaining.  The North Bend Bulldogs will be at Jiggs Dodson Field this evening at five to face the Vikings… that game will air on Coast Radio Sports with an airtime of 4:45.  Other Far West games today:  Douglas @ South Umpqua, Sutherlin @ Brookings.

College Baseball:

Oregon and Oregon State will meet on the diamond in Eugene this evening for a non-league civil war baseball matchup.

Athlete of the Week

Siuslaw baseball standout Josh Iabichello is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week.  Coming to the plate with one out, the bases loaded and the score tied in the bottom of the seventh inning last week, the Viking third baseman smacked a line drive through the gap into center field for the game winning RBI against Brookings-Harbor.

Honorable Mention… Siuslaw Sophomore Mack Marbas who posted a personal best in the 3,000 meters Saturday in Grants Pass, finishing fourth overall with a time of 9:05.09.
