On the track…

A half dozen Siuslaw athletes competed at Hayward Field in Eugene during the Oregon Relays over the weekend.  Several personal bests were recorded.  Hayden Schaffner took ten seconds off his previous best time and posted the ninth fastest time in the Oregon prep ranks so far this year in the 15-hundred, finishing in a time of 4:04.19.  Katy Potter also posted a best-time in the 15-hundred, finishing with 4:52.98.  Freshman Stevie Miller put up her best time so far this year in the 100 meter hurdles, 16:93 seconds. 

Prep Baseball…

On the diamond… the Siuslaw Vikings pulled off two comeback wins on the baseball diamond Friday Afternoon over the North Bend Bulldogs.  In the opener, Jake Thompson threw a no-hit, 13 strike out gem, but he and the Vikings overcame eight walks and four errors for the 9-3 win.  In the nightcap, Siuslaw used three pitchers and came from behind twice for the 9-8 thriller.  The Vikings are tied in second place with Sutherlin who split with Brookings-Harbor Friday.  South Umpqua remains a game ahead after sweeping Douglas.

Prep Softball… 

On the Softball Diamond, the Lady Vikings put up a little magic of their own, sweeping the North Bend Bulldogs in Two.  Monyk Duchscher broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the seventh with a two-RBI Double for a 6-4 win in game one.  In the nightcap the Vikings posted the Dogs a 5-nothing advantage in the top of the first, but came from behind in the late innings for a 13-6 victory.  Siuslaw is alone in second place with a 4-2 record, two games behind Douglas.  Sutherlin and Brookings, at 3-3 each, are tied for third.

College Baseball…

On the college baseball diamond… Washington State played spoiler over the weekend at PK Park winning two of three over the weekend.  #8 Oregon  opened with a 6-2 win Friday, but fell 8-3 Saturday and 10-6 Sunday.

In Corvallis, it was Oregon State playing the spoiler over #11 UCLA.  The Beavers gave up the Friday opener, 4-0 to the Bruins, but then shut out UCLA Saturday 3-nothing and winning the rubber match yesterday 7-6.
