PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Heavy rains have filled many streams and
rivers in western Oregon and much of the area is under a flood
warning or watch. Forecasters also are watching for flooding in the
Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon because of rain and melting snow.
Through tomorrow, rainfall could total 3 to 7 inches near the coast
and 1 to 3 inches in the Willamette Valley.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland police captain who was
suspended less than two years ago for memorializing five Nazi
soldiers was picked to provide leadership training this year to
command staff. The Oregonian reports Capt. Mark Kruger’s course was
called “Leadership and the Resolution of Common Tactical
Problems.” In late 2010 Kruger was suspended for 80 hours without
pay and ordered to take tolerance training for nailing memorial
plaques for Nazi soldiers to a tree in Rocky Butte Park. Kruger
apologized.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – A 5-year-old Bend girl stricken with
life-threatening meningitis nearly two weeks ago has improved from
critical to serious condition at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in
Portland. Deschutes County health officials say tests have
determined that the disease contracted by the girl is not the same
strain as a Crook County outbreak a few months ago.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A large tree in downtown Portland fell
early this morning, crushing a parked car and breaking windows in
an apartment. KOIN reports no one was hurt in the incident on
Southwest Park Avenue. Last week, another downtown tree fell,
causing minor injuries to a woman walking on the sidewalk.
