Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Prosecutors say an 18-year-old Portland
man ate dinner with his parents, then attacked them as they slept
with swords and a gun, killing his father and wounding his mother.
Jacob Simon has pleaded not guilty to a murder count in the death
of Peter Simon, a third-degree assault charge in the wounding of
Sheryl Simon, and four weapons counts.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Police have arrested a Medford man accused
of firing two shots into the air to quiet a pair of children
playing outside his trailer. Officers responded to the Shirleen
Trailer Park on Wednesday after 911 callers reported the shots.
Police say 42-year-old Danny Way was about 10 feet away when he
fired a .9 mm handgun twice in their direction but over their
heads. The children were unhurt.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say they don’t know very much about
how or why a 29-year-old opera singer and choir director was shot
multiple times in a car along I-205 in Portland. Officers found
Brian Tierney in his vehicle Wednesday night after someone called
police. The Oregonian reports he required reconstructive surgery
and remained in critical condition last night in a hospital. Police
don’t suspect it was a gang- or drug-related shooting.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Beaverton say they’ve solved the
mystery of the life-sized bronze deer statue stolen from outside a
business in the community of Raleigh Hills. Detectives say they
went to the home of a Beaverton man to arrest him for a burglary
and theft at a business in that city. While they were there, they
found the remains of the 400-pound bronze deer statue – cut into
pieces in an apparent attempt to sell it for scrap. Chad Ferguson
is jailed for investigation of burglary, aggravated theft,
possession of meth and criminal mischief.
