Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a state women’s
prison employee is due to be arraigned today on charges of official
misconduct and custodial sexual misconduct. Troopers say the victim
was a female inmate at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in
Wilsonville. Jeremy Veelle of Mulino was arrested after a
four-month investigation by state police detectives. No other
details were released.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland Fire and Rescue spokesman says
a large tree fell across a downtown Portland street, pinning a
woman walking nearby. Spokesman Paul Corah says the woman was
“pretty much cocooned between branches” and firefighters were
about to walk her out of the maze last evening. Corah calls her
“the luckiest woman alive.”

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Marion County judge has rejected a
Republican’s lawsuit challenging the election date for labor
commissioner. A campaign manager for GOP candidate Bruce Starr said
yesterday the judge declined Starr’s request to require that the
labor commissioner be chosen in the May 15 primary. Secretary of
State Kate Brown, a Democrat, says an obscure state law that
applies only in 2012 requires that the labor commissioner be chosen
in November.

SISTERS, Ore. (AP) – A founder of a family ranchers beef
cooperative headquartered in Oregon has died. Doc Hatfield died
Tuesday of pancreatic cancer at 74. Hatfield and his wife, Connie,
founded Oregon Country Beef in 1986 with 14 ranch families who were
out to get higher prices for beef that wasn’t raised on growth
hormones or antibiotics. The Capital Press reports the co-op, now
called Country Natural Beef, has grown to more than 100 ranch
families in 13 states.
