SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The State of Oregon is looking to sell
$18,000 worth of lethal drugs now that Gov. John Kitzhaber has
declared a moratorium on the death penalty as long as he’s in
office. The Bend Bulletin reports that the drugs expire within the
next three years. Some states have struggled to buy execution drugs
because of supply shortages, regulations on importation and
resistance among manufacturers to being associated with executions.
PARMA, Idaho (AP) – Authorities say a 13-year-old boy has been
accidently shot in the shoulder while duck hunting. The Canyon
County Sheriff’s Office says the boy shot himself with a 20-gauge
shotgun while hunting with family members Saturday along the Boise
River south of Parma, Idaho. Parma is near the Oregon-Idaho border.
Authorities say the boy was taken to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical
Center with injuries described as serious.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The mother of four young children who were
found locked in a filthy bedroom in Medford has pleaded guilty to
child neglect. Twenty-three year-old Kassandra Lynn Regain wept and
apologized in Jackson County Circuit Court on Friday as she was
sentenced to five days in jail, with credit for time served, and 18
months of probation. The Mail-Tribune says three counts of criminal
mistreatment were dismissed in the plea deal.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 21-year-old fresh-faced man who conned
people into thinking he was a plastic surgeon has been sentenced to
more than three years in prison. The Oregonian reports that Lucas
Orlin convinced people that he was a plastic surgery resident at
Oregon Health & Science University. He was sentenced on Friday
after pleading guilty last month to criminal mistreatment,
practicing medicine without a license and other charges.
