Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Census data show that nearly half of the
black children in Oregon live in poverty. The bureau estimates 49
percent of the state’s 20,000 black children were poor in 2010.
Other minority groups also have high poverty rates for children: 41
percent for Indians and 35 percent for Latinos. The rate for white
children is 19 percent.

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say the driver killed in
a crash on Interstate 5 near Albany was not wearing a seatbelt.
Police say Tracy Davis of Albany was ejected as her SUV rolled and
she died Thanksgiving afternoon at the scene. Two passengers in a
car rear-ended by the SUV wore seatbelts and were not injured.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A college-age man who was injured in a
stabbing near the University of Oregon campus is expected to
recover, and police have arrested three suspects. The
Register-Guard reports the stabbing early yesterday followed an
earlier confrontation between the man, a female companion and a
group of intoxicated people.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The traditional ZooLights display begins
Friday and runs through New Year’s Day at the Oregon Zoo in
Portland. KVAL reports visitors ride a steam train to see life-size
animal silhouettes, moving sculptures,and forests of lighted trees.
The zoo says most of the lights are eco-friendly LEDs.
