Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Forecasters say a storm taking aim at the
Northwest could be the strongest since a series of storms that hit
the north Oregon coast and southwest Washington in four years.
National Weather Service meteorologist Andy Bryant tells The
Oregonian that the storm expected today and tomorrow is likely to
bring the strongest winds since that fierce 2007 weather but
nothing close to the peak gusts topping 100 mph. He predicts 80 mph
gusts on Oregon beaches with winds as high as 70 mph in coastal
towns.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Newly released documents from the Oregon
Public Employees Retirement System show former University of Oregon
football coach Mike Bellotti is the state’s top public pension
beneficiary — over $41,000 per month. The names of more than
100,000 retired public employees in Oregon and how much they
receive in pensions are being made public as part of a court
settlement between the state retirement system and two newspapers.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Supreme Court says it won’t block
the Dec. 6 execution of twice-convicted murderer Gary Haugen,
spurning an attempt by death penalty opponents to halt the state’s
first execution in 14 years. The 4-3 decision is the last legal
hurdle in Haugen’s months-long quest to waive his remaining
appeals.

DENVER (AP) – An anti-abortion group that sponsored an
unsuccessful constitutional amendment in Mississippi says it will
try again with a revised version next year in Oregon, Colorado and
Montana. Personhood USA has campaigned for state constitutional
amendments defining life as beginning at fertilization. While the
amendments sought to ban abortion, many physicians said they could
make some birth control illegal and deter in vitro fertilization.
