Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – When the FBI notified police that a
Springfield man had purchased a mail-order suicide kit, officers
went to his home and kicked down his door to check on him. He’s OK.
The Register Guard reports the helium hood kit was ordered in
February by a newspaper employee for a reporter working on a story
about suicide kits. The story was published in March. Police said
there was nothing in the FBI’s message received yesterday that the
kit was purchased months ago.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland’s urban renewal agency paid
$148,000 in the past year in severance agreements with two top
executives. Public records obtained by The Oregonian show the
Development Commission paid $63,000 to Erin Flynn who departed as
director in April and $85,000 to Sandy Reina who left as human
resources director a year ago.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police have arrested a 21-year-old man who
escaped from a psychiatric hospital in Salem on Sept. 3 while on a
supervised walk. The Oregonian reports Matthew Ingle ran ahead of a
group of patients and staff and jumped into a waiting car. He was
convicted of two counts of second-degree manslaughter in a 2009 car
crash.

JOHN DAY, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department
is expected to add three more routes to the state’s scenic bikeways
program – the 179-mile Old West tour of cattle and fossil country
in the John Day River Valley; the 108-mile Blue Mountain Century, a
wheat farm and forest ride out of Heppner; the 106-mile Three
Sisters, in the ponderosa pine forest and high desert around
Sisters.
