Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
UNDATED (AP) — Red flag warnings are forecast for the Cascade
Range through Sunday, alerting firefighters of extreme weather that
can whip up fires. Even so, firefighters say they held their ground
yesterday against stubborn wildfires which have closed recreation
areas, threatened high-voltage power lines and Portland’s water
supply. Gov. John Kitzhaber plans to fly over the fire on the
northern flank of Mount Hood, then touch down for a briefing.

GOLD BEACH, Ore. (AP) – The toughest rapid on the wild section
of the Rogue River in southern Oregon has claimed its second life
in a week. Curry County deputies say Robert Nyam of Eugene was
rowing a raft through Blossom Bar on Wednesday when he hit rocks
and flipped. A passenger managed to climb onto the raft after it
washed up on rocks, but Nyam was swept away. Meanwhile, deputies
recovered the body of William Martindale of Sherwood who drowned
last Friday after jumping out of his drift boat with a rope when it
got stuck.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – State officials have issued health
advisories for high levels of blue-green algae in a reservoir south
of Estacada and a lake south of Government Camp. The algae levels
are probably related to dangerous toxin concentrations in the
water. Health officials say swallowing or inhaling water drops
should be avoided, as well as skin contact with water by humans or
animals.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Nike is going back to the future. The
Beaverton sneaker maker revealed yesterday it has created a
limited-edition shoe based on a glowing pair that appeared in the
popular 1989 movie “Back to the Future II.” The 2011 Nike Mag is
designed to be an exact replica of the fictional sneaker, including
a glowing Nike name on the strap. Nike will release 1,500 pairs of
the new sneaker for auction on eBay and donate all proceeds to the
Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s disease research. Fox
famously played Marty McFly in the film.
