Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
GASTON, Ore. (AP) – One person is injured after a 2-alarm fire
that destroyed a home in Gaston last night. Fire officials describe
the injuries as non-life-threatening. Fire crews and the Oregon
Department of Forestry responded to make sure the fire did not
spread in the Williams Canyon.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Witnesses told Oregon State Police a man
was trying to swim to his boat at Sauvie Island when he went
motionless in the water. Friends were performing CPR on the man
Sunday night at Collins Beach when a trooper and Columbia County
deputies arrived. Medics took over but were unable to revive him,
and 45-year-old Michael L. Walker of Forest Grove was declared dead
at the scene.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Authorities say they have arrested a man who
was being sought in the death of a former landlady in Idaho and
held a couple at gunpoint in Oregon. Malheur County deputies tell
the Idaho Statesman that a couple reported Sunday that they were
held at gunpoint at their cabin near Lake Owyhee for more than an
hour until their captor asked each for a hug and let them leave.
Authorities say 51-year-old Theodore Kestner had left the cabin by
the time police arrived but was found yesterday and taken into
custody.

ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – Labor unrest is stirring again and union
organizing is under way at the Ashland Food Co-op, where one
employee says workers hope to get the co-op to live up to its
values. An organizer says about 70 of the co-op’s 160 employees are
now behind the union and says the organizing focuses on management
practices and punishment policies. The co-op’s general manager says
the co-op has taken the concerns seriously and does everything it
can to address them.
