WARM SPRINGS, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters worked under a “red flag
warning” in central Oregon yesterday as they battled a complex of
wildfires that has burned 33,000 acres. Pam Sichting of the Central
Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center says the critical fire weather
could lead to erratic winds, new fire starts and potential danger
to firefighters. About 314 were fighting the fire yesterday, with
help from 20 fire engines and three helicopters.
TERREBONNE, Ore. (AP) – A fire destroyed a barn filled with 70
tons of hay in Terrobonne. KTVZ-TV reports the Saturday evening
fire also destroyed a tractor and haying equipment. Authorities
believe the fire was human-caused. They estimate damages total
$70,000. Fire crews remained on the scene late Saturday and into
early yesterday to monitor the blaze due to the large amount of hay
in the barn.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Eugene man who accidentally shot himself
after a taxi driver robbery now faces charges of participating in a
series of bank robberies. The Register-Guard reports 28-year-old
Jacob Allen Greenlee will be arraigned today in U.S. District Court
in Eugene on federal bank robbery charges. The charges are related
to two holdups at a U.S. Bank branch on Highway 99 in Eugene and
another at a Springfield Umpqua Bank branch.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Eugene motorcyclist is facing multiple
charges after allegedly leading police on a 125 mph chase. The
Register-Guard reports an Oregon State Police trooper saw a man
speeding on a motorcycle early Saturday. When the trooper turned on
his flashing lights, the motorcycle sped away. Forty-two-year-old
John Buck was later caught and taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center
for an exam before being taken to the Lane County Jail.
